A strong, capable Board is critical to the effectiveness and credibility of not-for-profit organisations. In today’s environment of shrinking public money, greater demand for services, increased potential exposure to liability and a demand for stronger accountability, an effective Board is a pre-requisite for not-for-profit organisations.
Running an effective Board can be demanding. A well functioning Board must ensure its members’ skills are harnessed to add real value, while productively managing relationships within the Board and beyond. The Board must also develop and maintain efficient lines of accountability and governance, prioritise effectively, fruitfully manage meetings and evaluate outcomes objectively.
Operating a productive Board is difficult enough when the Board is appropriately structured, however without the appropriate structure and size, the right mix of skills and experience and clearly identified roles and responsibilities, it can become very challenging indeed.

- Assessment of the effectiveness with which the Board meets the needs of the organisation, given its current ambitions and planned future directions.
- Identification of a recommended approach to addressing issues that may arise during the assessment phase, this often includes the establishment of new sub-committees in areas such as fundraising etc
- Where appropriate, assistance with the implementation of these recommendations. This often includes the Search & Selection of new board members who can bring the skills and experience needed to strengthen the Board and/or one of its sub-committees
